It is with overwhelming sadness that I inform you of the passing of Mayor Brian Miele this morning. The favorite son of Hillburn, Brian was a true leader and public servant. Hillburn would not be what it is today if not for him. Under his leadership Brian was responsible for the getting our youth center built, as well as the village hall and firehouse. He also went to Washington D.C. to procure funding for our water system and having the water tank constructed to improve water service. Brian’s achievements are to numerous to mention. He did so much for our community and was loved by all. I had the pleasure of serving as trustee under Brian for four years. He taught me so much about public service and for that I will always be grateful. He was employed by Suffern Central School District as a teacher and Assistant Superintendent. He also served as a Rockland County Legislator. Brian was a pragmatic, thoughtful and caring individual who always put Hillburn first. It was an honor to serve as a trustee under him. His leadership and guidance was second to none. I looked up to him and aspired to be like him. He was truly one of a kind and he will be greatly missed.
We send our condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace my friend,

Mayor Joseph P. Tursi

BRIAN L. MIELE was a man of faith, integrity, accountability, encouragement, respect, intelligence, leadership, commitment and energy……..ingredients that he had to make him a great Educator, Governmental Official and an outstanding individual.

The Village of Hillburn was blessed to have Brian as its Mayor for many years and to grow as a Village with many, many accomplishments.  He left a legacy of love and respect to the community.  Overall, Brian was a servant to mankind.

Welcome to the Village of Hillburn, NY

Nestled in the Ramapo Mountains, some 40 miles from the big apple, Hillburn New York is a small New England-like village of  approximately 1,000 people.

Hillburn is unique among the many villages, towns, and hamlets that exist throughout this region of the country.  Our village, for the past 100+ years, due to geographic location, has remained isolated and insulated from the rapid and sometimes uncontrolled growth experienced by the rest of Rockland County.
